30 leaves in red and black of calendar and almanac. Separate title-page, 1-37, [1] pages of short story. Two blank leaves of a darker paper stock inserted at end; contemporary pencil notes on two of the pages. All edges yellow. Later ink ownership inscription on front free endpaper, dated 1940, but difficult to accurately decipher. 54 x 91 mm. Original printed salmon colour card, with central posy of flowers within crude decorative borders on both covers. Complete with original marbled slipcase with side pocket for pencil (not present). Not in Bondy, nor Spielmann, nor Welsh. But see Welsh 162 for later 1863 edition published by G.Brah Augsburg, that sold for £8/8/- in 1961 Bondy Catalogue 55. OCLC, 634819424. WorldCat locates six copies worldwide (all in Germany). Johann Georg Rollwagen and Johann Gottlieb Rollwagen (father and son) were bookbinders and publishers in Augsburg. Johann Georg settled in Augsburg around 1794 and offered a wide range of religious literature, children's books, and historical almanacs. His son, Johann Gottlieb, took over the publishing house and workshop after his father's death in 1832. He also produced playing cards.
