D/J is unclipped a very nice tight, clean and barely read copy. First published by Routledge & Kegan Paul in 1979. This edition by Macmillan 2002, first in this form .Road to the Isles is a wonderfully evocative account of the Hebrides, drawn from the journals and memoirs of intrepid travellers and from the author's many personal journeys in these remarkable islands. Provenance: This copy was acquired from the descendants of Tony Hoolahan Q.C., a prominent libel lawyer who successfully prosecuted Private Eye, (represented by John Mortimer of Rumpole fame) on behalf of Desmond Wilcox (married to Esther Rantzen of "That's Life" fame) in 1982. Anthony and Dorothy Hoolahan were neighbours and friends of the author and Janet, his wife. In 1995 Derek Cooper was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and this 2004 inscription bears witness to the challenge of writing with a pen at that stage in his illness- he signed his books very seldom after 2000.
