Some mild edge wear and sporadic mild creasing- a trifle play worn but remaining intact and predominantly in good to very good condition. 7 x 10 cm. Original printed, paper covered box with mounted card #15 'Queen in Court' & with "Manufacturers to His Majesty" on the side, dating this set to between 1901-10. Box slightly torn on lower edge, one corner slightly split & small stain and handling marks. 48 playing cards produced by Thomas de la Rue with the permission of Macmillan, the publishers of Alice in Wonderland. The illustrations are from the 1896 version, by Sir John Tenniel and adapted by E. Gertrude Thomson. All the major characters are wonderfully depicted. One card in each set is a Leading card. On this card are the names of the other two cards required to form the set. For example, the Leading card, `Alice Telescoping' tells you to find `Rabbit running away' and `The Fan', which complete this set.
