Engraved armorial bookplate (William D. Wilkinson) on front paste-down endpaper. 11 x 17 cm. Contemporary full brown morocco gilt. Spine in six gilt ruled and tooled compartments with raised bands. Boards withg elaborate gilt tooled borders featuring the scrolling Greek key pattern. Upper board with title stamped in gilt with double gilt fillet circular border (very slightly rubbed along outer hinges, at the top and bottom of the spine, corners slightly bumped). Subscribers' list in rear suggests limitation of perhaps 300 copies (including C.Wilkinson). First published work of a Yorkshireman who went on to write about his trip to Rome and about his home town, Morley. Scarce. WorldCat locates only five copies worldwide (4 in the UK).
