2 VOLUME SET. TRUE FIRST EDITION. 572; 420 printed pages. Two steel engraved portrait frontispieces and 14 steel engraved plates (in 1831 2 dated, engraved titles, 2 additional plates & 7 extra pages of text in the second volume were addded to the second printing -but with the same imprint date of 1830 on the title page). Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Some mild foxing and browning; otherwise a very good set. 14 x 21 cm. Later (c.1909) half red crushed morocco, signed by "Bayntun Binder Bath Eng.[land]" on the verso of the front free endpaper. Spines in six compartments with hand-tooled raised bands, gilt lettering and alternating gilt royal crowns and House of Tudor rose emblems within gilt borders and with corner gilt tooled circles. Boards have gilt ruled red morocco over red cloth. Corners slightly bumped. Very slight wear near the head of the spine on the upper hinges. Present beautifully and the gilt tooling and excellent red binding work is perfectly matched to the Royal content. George Bayntun was born in Bath on 4th August 1873. He served his apprenticeship with the Taylor family in Trim Street and started his own bookbinding business in Northumberland Place in 1894. Contemporary account of the life and reign of George IV by Robert Huish (1777-1850). Huish was born in Nottingham and studied and travelled abroad. He published several other royal and political biographies, on Queen Caroline, William IV, William Cobbett and Henry Hunt, as well as books on bees and beekeeping. Bookseller Inventory # 4365
