Original pink retailer's label on rear paste-down endpaper for Garton, Freestone Bookseller, 4 The Poultry, Nottingham. 19 x 28 mm. Original red leather with "Bryce's English dictionary" in gilt capital letters on front cover; Pears on rear cover is still bright. Complete with original tin locket. Magnifying glass loop built into a pressed metal locket with ring for charm bracelet on top . This is the standard version with the globe on the back and "smallest dictionary in the world, with magnifying glass" on the front and gilt lacquer interior (dull grey metal with some pitting inside). At the time of publication, it probably was the smallest English dictionary in the world, thanks to David Bryce & Son's use of photo-mechanical reduction in large-scale book production. Bondy, 106.
