Pages evenly toned. 13 x 19 cm. Original maroon embossed cloth binding with bevelled edges (slightly faded). Spine with gilt lettering, upper cover with title reversed within gilt decorative device. Very slight damage to head & tail of spine. Corners very slightly bumped. Very good. First published in 1869. Memoirs and works of eminent blind authors, including: Homer, Blacklock, Holman, Wilson, Huber, Miss Alice Holmes, Miss Frances Jane Crosby, Miss Cynthia Bullock and others; as well as a collection of poems by blind authors including: L.V. Hall; Frances Brown; Margaret Belches; Michael M'Guire and others. ** The little broadside in raised printing employs the Philadelphia line fonts inspired by Julius Friedlander and adopted in 1837 for use by his Philadelphia school, now the Overbrook School for the Blind. Though helpful for years in educating the blind, many sightless persons found the Roman letters difficult to use, and all such systems were eventually superseded by Braille.
