Contemporary ownership signature and and associated ink stamp. 13 x 18.5 cm. Contemporary full cream goatskin. Spine with black leather label and hand-tooled gilt foliate scrolling. (somewhat abraded in spots). Corners very slightly bumped. Classic work on travels to Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and Greece. Provenance:- Richard (?) Reid of Auchenbothie House in Kilmalcolm- built in 1898 a Baronial mansion by William Leiper FRIBA RSA (1839-1916), a Scottish architect notable particularly for his domestic architecture. It had a simple, detached, two-bedroom cottage as its gate lodge, by Charles Rennie Mackintosh who drew and signed three unexecuted designs for the lodge, as well as the design that was eventually built & was named as architect in the county planning authority's Register of New Buildings in October 1901.
