All pages with various harlequin coloured printer's scrolling borders, title page with printed blue holly borders. Holly, it notes, is an emblem alluding to foresight. Very slight marginal staining to half-title page. All edges gilt. Ink inscription on front free endpaper dated 1848. Some staining to very pale yellow endpapers. 52 x 80mm. Original cream paper/thin card binding. Lower part of spine torn away and missing. David Bogue (1807/8-1856) came to London from Scotland in 1836 and worked as shop assistant to Charles Tilt at 86 Fleet Street from 1836; in partnership with Tilt from 1840, and succeeded him in 1842 (purchasing the firm for about £50,000). His chief success was as Cruikshank's principal publisher, but his rival H G Bohn imitated many of his ventures. Not in Bondy, nor Spielmann. Welsh, 2627 refers to just a single copy. OCLC, 57051925.
