Collates as complete, *A-*P4. Possibly extracted from George Eyre and Andrew Strahan bible of 1822 (?). Printed in two columns on watermarked paper from 1822. Armorial engraved contemporary book-plate on front free endpaper. Same owner's stamp on final page. Contemporary ten line explanation of the Apocrypha by John Cotton of Birmingham in neat ink hand on verso of front free endpaper. Some foxing on first few and last leaves. 15 x 23 cm. Contemporary full straight-grained burgundy morocco possibly by John Rodwell of Oxford. Spine with four broad raised and gilt decorated bands. Compartments with gilt floral tooling within double gilt fillets with corner pieces (slightly rubbed). Boards with central hand-tooled gilt doves (signifying the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus), within richly tooled floreate strapwork and six blind and gilt scrolling borders and corner pieces (some slight rubbing along hinges). Inner gilt dentelles. Inner hinges very slightly cracked but firm. Provenance:- Owned by Charles Scott Murray of Hambleden (who died in 1837) and whose son was a Tory MP and a patron of Augustus Pugin. A highly decorative and beautifully tooled Georgian leather binding. Bookseller Inventory # 5057
