Julius Mendes Price (1857-1924) journalist, illustrator and special artist to the "Illustrated London News", as a correspondent covered the Bechuanaland Campaign. the Greco-Turkish war, the Russo-Japanese War and the First World War. He describes this book, regarded as one of the best reports on the early Western Australian gold fields, as a "brief record of my journey over a continent which until recent developments was a comparatively little known section of the great British Empire".
