FIRST EDITION, 2nd impression. 124 printed pages. Evenly toned pages. 13 x 19 cm. Original crimson cloth, lettered in gilt along the spine- edges slightly worn. Complete with white, unclipped (7s. 6d.) dustwrapper printed in black, designed by Vanessa Bell (her initials incorporated into the design). In very good to near fine condition but with a crease along the spine and extremely slight wear to the top & foot of the spine. Six thousand of the first impression were printed in January 1944; this is one of the three thousand second impresion printed the following month of February, preceding the first American edition of 13th April. Shortly before her death in 1941, Virginia laid plans for the contents of her next volume of short stories. In this volume, Leonard Woolf attempted to carry out Virginia's intentions, including six of the eight short stories first published in 1921 in "Monday or Tuesday", adding six stories that had appeared since 1922 in magazines, and a further six new stories, never previously published.
